On Thursday Feb 25th Leicestershire lads The Examples played The Flapper in Birmingham for Surface Unsigned Festival. They began their 25 minute indie/alternative set with very catchy Chauvinist, its infectious rhythm and apparently 'typical' male teenage lyrics were set to please. It warmed up the crowd well, who if they were anything like me would have been waiting for some glimpse of good music at the end of the dark, dark tunnel that was other five bands sets. The Examples brought it anyway, and I noticed some women dancing to one of their songs which must be a good sign.
They finished off the set with Riot (think the metros, a bit of the rivers and a touch of the libertines) , and by that time I think that the whole crowd had thoroughly enjoyed their set. Backed up with the fact that I think they probably had the largest hand vote out of the other bands, could be wrong though having missed the first band. They were last on, and tied the night up with a nice Examples ribbon. They'll be playing the Custard Factory in Birmingham some time in June for round two. Taking inspiration from The Libertines, The Jam, The Cribs and Scouting For Girls they look set to be making some kind of dent on the Indie music scene outside of Corby, not a band to be missed. So get down to the custard factory in June!! I'll have another post up after the gig! :)
