Contra

'Contra' is the new album released early this year by self claimed Indie/New Wave/Alternative (I'd say it's pretty difficult to classify them, their music is a mixture of everything) musicians/musical geniuses Vampire Weekend. The album had a lot to live up to after their self titled debut album released in 2008, which recieved a rating of 8/10 from NME, and all other reviews followed suit.
The album begins with 'Horchata' which accoring to the internet is some drink made of milk and stuff that's meant to cure hangovers, mmm. Anyway, it's a brilliant start to the album but I think that the real highlight of the album has to be 'Giving Up The Gun' it's catchy, the lyrics make no sense, and sums Vampire Weekend up perfectly, what more could you want? It also contains their recently released single 'Cousins' if you haven't already seen the video...watch it, it's brilliant. The album's tied up with 'I Think You're A Contra' it takes a break from the manic beats of the rest of the album, Ezra Koenig's voice is very soothing, and it just shows the real variety that Vampire Weekend have managed to accomplish with both of their albums.
NME have given this one 8/10 too, which is fair, but I think that it deserves a little bit more than the last one got, I'm not even being biased.
